Day 1 : Arrive New Delhi International, IndiaUpon arrival you will be welcomed by our representative & transferred to hotel. Delhi - capital of modern India. Many dynasties and rulers have flourished on its regal soil over the last 3000 years. The legacy still survives in many monuments varying from the 13th century mausoleum of the Lodi Kings to the buildings of British India's imperial past like the Parliament House and the Presidential Estate. Overnight at Delhi.
Day 2 : Fly Delhi - Paro, BhutanThis morning we transfer to airport for flight to Paro - extends from the confluence of the Paro Chhu and the Wang Chhu rivers at Chuzom upto Mt. Jomolhari at the Tibetan border to the North. This picturesque region is one of the widest valleys in the kingdom and is covered in fertile rice fields and has a beautiful, crystalline river meandering down the valley. Accentuating the natural beauty are the many elegant, traditional-style houses that dot the valley and surrounding hills. Visitors often spend several days in Paro as there are over 155 temples and monasteries in this area, some dating as far back as 14th century. Among them is the temple that is considered Bhutan’s most iconic landmark Taktsang Monastery, the Tiger’s Nest. On arrival transfer to hotel & check in. Overnight stay at Paro.
Day 3 : Drive Paro - Thimpu (70 kms)This morning visit to Ta Dzong - formerly a watchtower and now housing the National Museum. Stroll through the colourful market and enjoy a walk along the Paro River. Later drive to the Bhutanese capital of Thimphu - the kingdom’s capital city is home to approximately 100,000 inhabitants including the Royal family. This bustling little city is the main center of commerce, religion and government in the country. It is the most modern city in Bhutan with an abundance of restaurants, internet cafes, nightclubs and shopping centers, however it still retains its’ cultural identity and values amidst the signs of modernization. It is one of the few towns in Bhutan that have been equipped with ATM banking facilities and is a good place to stock up on some currency. One of the most curious features of Thimphu is that it is the only capital city in the world that does not use traffic lights. Instead a few major intersections have policemen standing in elaborately decorated booths (small pavilions), directing traffic with exaggerated hand motions. The juxtaposition of ancient tradition and modernity make Thimphu the ideal location for visitors to break away from their tour itinerary and just immerse themselves in the lifestyle of contemporary Bhutanese. Day 4 : In ThimpuThis morning proceed on city tour, visit the Memorial Chorten (a huge Stupa) built in memory of the third King of Bhutan, the handicrafts emporium where Bhutanese textiles are displayed. Tashichho Dzong - the main secretariat building, in 1641 Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal acquired it but finding it too small, he built another one, known as the lower Dzong. The original dzong was destroyed by fire in 1771 and everything was moved to the lower dzong. The new building was later expanded several times over the years, the National Library where a vast collection of ancient manuscripts are preserved and the painting and the wood craft school. Buddha Dordenma Statue - This massive statue of Shakyamuni measures in at a height of 51.5 meters, making it one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world. The statue is made of bronze and is gilded in gold. 125,000 smaller Buddha statues have been placed within the Buddha Dordenma statue, 100,000 8 inch tall and 25,000 12 inch tall statues respectively. Each of these thousands of Buddhas have also been cast in bronze and gilded. The throne that the Buddha Dordenma sits upon is a large meditation hall. The Buddha Dordenma is located atop a hill in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park and overlooks the Southern entrance to Thimphu Valley. The statue fulfills an ancient prophecy dating back to the 8th century A.D that was discovered by Terton Pema Lingpa (Religious Treasure Discoverer) and is said to emanate an aura of peace and happiness to the entire world. Evening is free for leisure. Overnight stay at Thimpu.
Day 5 : Drive Thimpu - Wangdi (80 kms)After breakfast drive Wangdi via Dochu La Pass. Enroute tour Punakha Dzong - a 17th century fortress lies between two rivers Phochu and Mochu meaning ‘Male River and Female River’. Continue your drive and check in. Overnight at Wangdi.
Day 6 : Drive Wangdi - Trongsa - Bhumtang (200 kms)Today drive crossing 3 passes over 3000 meters. The route offers magnificent views of the Himalayas and beautiful landscape through scattered hamlets and forest of rhododendron and pine. Arrive Trongsa village - the town mainly consists of fresh Tibetan refugees but the most impressive of all is the Trongsa Dzong - a masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture built in 1647. The whole of eastern Bhutan was controlled from this fortress during the mid 17th century. Visitors are not allowed inside the Dzong. Continue drive to Bumthang, visit the Chume weaving center. Overnight in Bumthang.
Day 7 : In BhumtangThis morning visit to Kurje Lhakhang - regarded as one of the most sacred places in the kingdom. Continue to Jambey Lhakhang Temple, erected by Tibetan kings in the seventh century. This afternoon, see the ancient Buddhist wall paintings at Tamshing Lhakhang and visit Jakar Dzong, a former monastery now used as the administrative centre of the Bumthang valley and the regional monk body. Rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight at Bhumtang.
Day 8 : Drive Bhumtang - Wangdi (200 kms)After breakfast drive to Wangdi. Enroute tour Gangtey / Phobijkha valley. Overnight at Wangdi.
Day 9 : Drive Wangdi - Paro (150 kms)After breakfast drive to Paro and check in. Day is free for leisure in Paro.
Day 10 : In ParoMorning trek to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest), the Cliffside monastery perched on a rocky ledge with a sheer drop of over 800 metres. The hike takes about four hours. Afternoon visit Rinpung Dzong, the administrative seat of the district of Paro containing a state monastic community of 200 monks. Evening is free for leisure. Overnight at Paro.
Day 11 : DepartureToday we will transfer you to Paro airport for your onward flight.
