Day 1 : Arrive Paro International AirportWelcome to Bhutan. Today we arrive Paro - extends from the confluence of the Paro Chhu and the Wang Chhu rivers at Chuzom upto Mt. Jomolhari at the Tibetan border to the North. This picturesque region is one of the widest valleys in the kingdom and is covered in fertile rice fields and has a beautiful, crystalline river meandering down the valley. Accentuating the natural beauty are the many elegant, traditional-style houses that dot the valley and surrounding hills. Visitors often spend several days in Paro as there are over 155 temples and monasteries in this area, some dating as far back as 14th century. Among them is the temple that is considered Bhutan’s most iconic landmark Taktsang Monastery, the Tiger’s Nest. On arrival transfer to hotel & check in. Overnight stay at Paro.
Day 2 : Excursion to Haa Valley (03.30 hrs one way)Early today we proceed for visit to Haa Valley - located in South West of Paro and covering an area of roughly 1706 sq. km. Haa is the smallest Dzongkhag in the country. This tiny region is one of the most beautiful and isolated areas in the kingdom, adorned with pristine alpine forests and tranquil mountain peaks. Haa is the ancestral home of the Queen Grandmother and the illustrious Dorji family. This valley remains one of the least visited areas in the country and retains the air of an unspoiled, primeval forest. The wooded hills of Haa provides an ideal location for hiking and mountain biking. Evening we return to hotel, time at leisure. Overnight stay at Paro.
Day 3 : Drive Paro - Thimpu (02 hrs)After breakfast we drive to Thimpu - the kingdom’s capital city is home to approximately 100,000 inhabitants including the Royal family. This bustling little city is the main center of commerce, religion and government in the country. It is the most modern city in Bhutan with an abundance of restaurants, internet cafes, nightclubs and shopping centers, however it still retains its’ cultural identity and values amidst the signs of modernization. It is one of the few towns in Bhutan that have been equipped with ATM banking facilities and is a good place to stock up on some currency. One of the most curious features of Thimphu is that it is the only capital city in the world that does not use traffic lights. Instead a few major intersections have policemen standing in elaborately decorated booths (small pavilions), directing traffic with exaggerated hand motions. The juxtaposition of ancient tradition and modernity make Thimphu the ideal location for visitors to break away from their tour itinerary and just immerse themselves in the lifestyle of contemporary Bhutanese. Day 4 : Tour ThimpuThis morning proceed on city tour, visit the Memorial Chorten (a huge Stupa) built in memory of the third King of Bhutan, the handicrafts emporium where Bhutanese textiles are displayed. Tashichho Dzong - the main secretariat building, in 1641 Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal acquired it but finding it too small, he built another one, known as the lower Dzong. The original dzong was destroyed by fire in 1771 and everything was moved to the lower dzong. The new building was later expanded several times over the years, the National Library where a vast collection of ancient manuscripts are preserved and the painting and the wood craft school. Buddha Dordenma Statue - This massive statue of Shakyamuni measures in at a height of 51.5 meters, making it one of the largest statues of Buddha in the world. The statue is made of bronze and is gilded in gold. 125,000 smaller Buddha statues have been placed within the Buddha Dordenma statue, 100,000 8 inch tall and 25,000 12 inch tall statues respectively. Each of these thousands of Buddhas have also been cast in bronze and gilded. The throne that the Buddha Dordenma sits upon is a large meditation hall. The Buddha Dordenma is located atop a hill in Kuenselphodrang Nature Park and overlooks the Southern entrance to Thimphu Valley. The statue fulfills an ancient prophecy dating back to the 8th century A.D that was discovered by Terton Pema Lingpa (Religious Treasure Discoverer) and is said to emanate an aura of peace and happiness to the entire world. Evening is free to explore the local markets. Post lunch we drive to Punakha (2 hrs) - On October 13, 2011, the wedding of the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and his fiancé, Jetsun Pema, was held at the Punakha Dzong. Punakha Dzongkhag has been inextricably linked with momentous occasions in Bhutanese history. It served as the capital of the country from 1637 to 1907 and the first national assembly was hosted here in 1953. It is the second oldest and second largest dzong in Bhutan and one of the most majestic structures in the country. Punakha valley has a pleasant climate with warm winters and hot summers. It is located at an average elevation of 1200 meters above sea level. Owing to the favorable climatic conditions, rice grows very well in this region and is the main cash crop cultivated here. Day 5 : Tour PunakhaThis morning tour Punakha Dzong, built at the confluence of these two rivers the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu converge in this valley. Punakha Dzong is and is an especially beautiful sight on sunny days with sunlight reflecting off the water onto its white-washed walls. In addition to its structural beauty, Punakha Dzong is notable for containing the preserved remains of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the unifer of Bhutan as well as a sacred relic known as the Ranjung Karsapani. This relic is a self-created image of Avalokiteswara that miraculously emerged from the vertebrae of Tsangpa Gyarey the founder of the Drukpa School when he was cremated. Post lunch we drive to Paro (06 hrs), on arrival check in. Evening is free for leisure. Overnight stay at Paro.
Day 6 : Tour ParoYou will begin the day with a walk up the Tiger’s Nest Monastery. The path is steep and the walk takes around 3 hours to reach the top where you can go in and look around the monastery. The views are incredible and well worth the climb. Dzongdrakha Temple and Kila Gompa are secondary examples of cliff-side temples that are also located in Paro Dzongkhag. Visit Rinpung Dzong, the administrative seat of districts of 200 monks. Paro is also home to the National museum. The museum is set in Paro Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower that now displays hundreds of ancient Bhutanese artifacts and artwork including traditional costumes, armour, weaponry and handcrafted implements for daily life. The collection at the National Museum preserves a snap-shot of the rich cultural traditions of the country. Another site worth visiting when is Paro is Drugyel dzong or The Fortress of the Victorious Bhutanese. This Dzong was constructed by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal in 1646 to commemorate his victory over marauding Tibetan armies. Though the fortress was destroyed by fire in 1951, the ruins remain an impressive and imposing sight. Evening is free for leisure. Overnight stay at Paro.
Day 7 : Fly Paro - Kathmandu, NepalBid farewell. Today we transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward flight to Kathmandu - the capital of Nepal, is one of the most picturesque capitals in the world. The city of Kathmandu derives its name from Kasthamandap, an imposing wooden pagoda near the Hanuman Dhoka Palace. This city was built by King Gunakama Dev in 723 AD. The original name of the city was Kantipur, the glamorous city. Kathmandu is situated at an altitude of 1,336 m above sea level, and surrounded by high mountains all around, with the white peaks looking down and can be viewed clearly from vantage points at the foothills around Kathmandu. On arrival transfer to hotel & check in. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.
Day 8 : Excursion to Patan & BhaktapurThis morning proceed on excursion to Patan - also known as Lalitpur, a city with nearly two hundred beautiful temples artisans skilled craftsmanship. The city encompasses Buddhist monasteries, Hindu temples with superbly crafted metal gateways and exquisite carvings. See artistic wooden carved balconies, windows full of artisance curio shops around etc. before heading back to Kathmandu visit Bodnath Stupa and Pashupatinath. You may like to visit Bodnath Stupa at the end of the day to catch some of the evening chanting as local people and monks circle the stupa spinning their prayer wheels as they go. Later visit Bhaktapur - it has retained middle age character, wandering around the city is a pleasant experience with numerous temples. Visit Durbar chowk, the Golden gate, the palace of windows, Vatsala & Durga temple, Nyatpola temple (five storey temple), Dattatraya temple, Bhairava Nath temple, National Art Gallery, Taumadhi Square. Evening return for overnight stay at Kathmandu.
Day 9 : Tour KathmanduAfter breakfast visit Durbar Square - a Royal Palace built by Malla Dynasty in 16th century. This old Durbar still the home of rituals till the last King of Shah Dynasty. Kumari - a living Goddess Buddhist pagoda style monastery where a Goddess lives all the year round, a multi roofed pagoda Kasthamandap - was built during Malla period, made by a single tree from which the capital city derived its name as Kathmandu. Nearby is Basantpur Palace - a nine storied pagoda built by King Prithiv Narayan Shah, the first ruler of Shah Dynasty. Later drive towards Swayambhunath - located on top of the hill constructed by dynasty in AD 460. There are 211 prayer wheels surrounding the stupa and is one of the most pilgrim center. Overnight at Kathmandu.
Day 10 : Fly Kathmandu - PokharaAfter breakfast fly to Pokhara - an enchanting natural paradise proffers a heavenly beauty and serenity for the inquisitive travellers. The valley is of 124 square feet, the home of a numbers of lakes including the most renowned Phewa Lake, offers amazing view of the Annapurna range include Annapurna I and VI, Annapurna South and Machhapuchhare. On arrival check in. Evening is at leisure. Overnight at Pokhara.
Day 11 : Tour PokharaThis morning trek to the World Peace Pagoda - a massive Buddhist stupa which was constructed by Buddhist monks from the Japanese Nipponzan Myōhōji Organisation. Besides being an impressive sight in itself, the shrine is a vantage point which offers spectacular views of the Annapurna range and Pokhara city. Continue on foot and take a boat ride on Phewa lake. Overnight at Pokhara.
Day 12 : Fly Pokahara - KathmanduMorning is free for leisure. Post lunch we transfer to Pokhara airport for flight to Kathmandu. On arrival transfer to hotel & check in. Evening is free for leisure. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.
Day 13 : DepartureBid farewell. Today we transfer to Kathmandu International airport for your onward flight.
